Oh hey blog...

I swear I didn't forget you existed...I even made posts in my head, but life has just been crazy and I keep forgetting to focus enough to update you. Oops! I even loaded these pics to my blogging app a few weeks ago, then just forgot. David and I had a blast in Florida with my sis and parents, visiting my fam there and going to Disney World! Here are a bunch of pics from my phone (some stolen from David's too). Enjoy, and expect a glittery post coming soon!

Quicky

A quick update before our crazy fun week begins.

Today we have an angry birds party for one of our favorite 2 year olds, followed by a wedding of one David's co-workers. Somewhere in there we also have to pack and clean up our apartment for our trip to Florida tomorrow!

We're going to see my grandma and the rest of my dad's family in Tampa, then head to Disney World for the whole week. I'm ridiculously excited, it's David's first time :) He also gets to meet the goofy side of my family. Maybe it will shed some light on why I am the way I am a little for him, ha.

I'm taking my iPad so I hope to be able to post some pics from Florida, but we'll see if that actually happens or not.

day 28: the in-laws

the Waldon fam

Today I'm thankful for my in-laws.  David has a huge family and I love them all.  He has step-siblings, wonderful parents, and Aunts and Uncles, and cousins whom are all great.

I love that his mom's whole family are in Austin, so we get to see them all the time.  They do dinners for every birthday, holiday, anniversary, and just because sometimes.

His family, well my family now, is full of love and they know how to have fun.  I'm so thankful to have 2 families so close.  I know David and I will be taken care of if anything happens.

day 21: Miriah

sisters
Today I am thankful for my sister, Miriah.  She's been around for nearly 23 years (what?!) and she's pretty cool, if I have to admit it :)

When we were younger we didn't always get along, but what else can you expect when you put two stubborn girls together in one house.  I think we finally became friends once I left for college and wasn't always having to share a bathroom with her, haha.

Being 4 years apart we were never in the same school after I got out of elementary school.  Then when I transferred to Texas State she began there my second year.  It was actually fun having family so close and knowing we could have lunch together once or twice a week.

My sister is a very special person and I love her dearly.  She has a great eye for art and lights, is so very determined, and has an extremely sensitive heart for those around her.  If you count her as a friend you are a very lucky person.  She will go to bat for anyone she cares for, even if you may not be willing to do so for her.

She's a little weird, but who in our family isn't?  She knew from the start that David was someone important to me and has fully embraced him as her big brother, which I love.  I know we'll be friends for the rest of our lives and someday she'll make an amazing fun aunt.

Love you, Squirt!

day 14: my momma

opening a card from my mom
Today I am thankful for the other half of the dynamic duo known as my parents...my mom.  My momma has been my biggest fan in everything I do but is also always there to help me be better.

She taught me how to sew.  I don't remember one particular day of learning, but more a combination of just watching her create for years and absorbing it.  I'm very much a learn on my own type, but I knew I could always go ask for her expert advice at any time.  I would say this is the biggest skill I've gained from my mom.  I love that she made my prom dresses and customized my wedding dress to be exactly what I wanted.  She also made her dress above.

Another obvious gain from my mom would be my looks.  When I was younger everyone used to call me a little Mollie and I think anyone from her hometown could take one look at me and know where I come from.  I inherited her freckles, blue eyes, sway back, and red tinted hair.  I'm very excited to know that my mom is almost 55 in that picture above and that is her natural hair color and smooth skin.  Looking like a teenager now can be bothersome but it will be awesome when I'm older!

I gained my mom's logic, sarcasm, organizational skills, will, and stubbornness.  All these combined have made a strong woman, and I'm so very thankful that I had her as my female role-model in life.

I'm blessed to have a mom who trusts my opinions in life.  I get to help her with decorating decisions around the house and I know she respects my eye and taste.

I love my mother more than a post could possibly encompass, but I hope this gave a good idea :)

day 7: my daddy

pinning on my dad's boutonniere

Today I am thankful for my daddy.  I will try my best to keep this post from getting insanely long, it's going to be difficult though.

My dad is one of my favorite people in my life.  Naturally I love him, he was one half of the amazing duo that raised and shaped me into the person I am today.  I know the relationship I have with my dad is special though.  It goes far beyond him just being that guy who raised me.  I wish every girl could have a father like I have, but I know of only one who was as lucky as I, and that's my sister.

My dad is the original inspiration for all things musical in my life.  I can remember him playing his guitar when I was very little and singing me Puff the Magic Dragon.  He would sing me to sleep at night to the tune of John Denver's Today.  I'm not sure if I've ever heard Denver's version, but I know the song very well.  As I grew my dad was very involved in my choir and orchestra activities.  He loved watching musicals with me and wandered our house singing goofy songs (does this sound like my post about David? ha!)

I am extremely blessed to not only have a present father in my life but also one who shares my faith.  My dad has a huge heart for service and I've seen him work to the point of exhaustion while serving our Lord.  If there is anything he can do to help someone else, he'll do it...gladly!  That inspires me daily.

I love talking to my dad now that I'm older and have my own very strong opinions.  I find he usually shares them with me or if not he respects them anyways.  He tells me when he's proud of the way I'm living but still also reminds me to drive carefully right after a light rain, always a daddy for sure.  I think one reason I enjoy talking to him is we share a very similar sense of humor.  I love being able to make him laugh as he has done my entire life.

Some traits my dad has passed down to me are a love for ketchup, appreciation for good music, my sense of humor, a laid back personality, general goofiness, and a tall stature so I can tower over all my tiny friends.  Okay that last one is just to be funny, though I do tend to be taller than many of my girl friends.

Like I said, I could write so much more but I think I'll keep this brief for now.  I think you get the point that my dad is awesome and could beat up your dad :)

My little Chu

his new morning spot
Chuy is almost a year and a half he's still such a little puppy to me.  I may be partial but I think he's the cutest thing on the planet.  For a long time he wasn't snuggly at all but now he is and it just makes him that much more lovable.  He curls up close to me on the couch, while I'm sleeping, and especially in the morning before I get out of bed.  I tend to get up late almost every morning now because of his absurd cuteness!

Aside from Chuy's puppy-like looks, he's also crazy smart.  I'm convinced he knows the entire english language.  David doesn't agree, but I know my Chu.  Here's a list of commands that he knows instantly:
  • time to get up = time to jump out of bed instantly
  • want to go outside? = ready for David to take you out? :)
  • out! = go sit outside the door to whatever room we are in
  • where's your ____? = go get that toy and bring it to me!
  • do you want a treat Chuy? = yummy snausage!!
  • bedtime! = go sit by the bedroom door then jump on our bed when we open said door
  • come here now! = hang your head and slowly walk to me after doing something bad
  • get down = get off couch/bed/me

He also knows most of his toys by name, and learned them within a day.  His favorite is this blue hollow rubber ball I found at Target...it's awesome.  He also really loves these Sonic tot characters I have.  We have several: fishy, flamingo (pinky), bat, scuba diver...we don't have a name for this one, ha.  We also call his rawhides twists.  If I say "where's your twist?" he goes crazy looking for one.

he likes to watch all the birds
Ok I'll stop gushing about my super cute, super smart pup.  I just realized most of my chuy posts were just pics and I hadn't talked about him on here.  I love him and he makes our little family complete.  David likes to call him names but I know he loves him too...except when Chuy pounces on him :)

well...it finally happened!

I will let these wonderful pics that Whitney took speak for themselves :)

September 3, 2009

so tonight...

So I went to Hobby Lobby this evening before praise band practice to get some fabric for a project I will talk about later. Then, on my way to church, as I was taking a turn I hear a loud honk then bam! The car next to me didn't turn tight enough and rammed me into the bridge wall on my right.

He was an older man and when he realized he might hit me he went to hit the brakes but slammed on the gas instead and hit me pretty hard, then kept going through the light.

Once I realized what happened I tried to drive through the intersection to get my car out of the road but it wouldn't move. So I turned it off and saw a woman in a car next to me trying to ask if I was ok. I told her I was but I needed a phone because mine flew across my car and I couldn't find the battery that had flown out. She pulled ahead then came back, called 911 for me and let me use her phone to call my dad.

The fire truck got there first and I managed to crawl out of the back driver's side door since my door was jammed shut. A fireman made sure I was ok, helped me out of my car and talked to me till the ambulance got there. When an EMT got there he took my blood pressure and checked me oer to make sure I didn't break anything. We realized I had a HUGE bump on my head where I guess I hit my head on the door window. I also felt something weird on my neck/collarbone area. He said it was a burn from my seat belt. Other than that no injuries. He also said they could take me to the hospital but I felt ok.

My dad got there from choir practice and made sure I was ok. He also talked to everyone around and took pictures of my car. When he realized I was ok he called my mom. The tow truck arrived soon to take my poor broken car away.

Once we finally left the scene the burn on my neck started hurting more, as did the bump on my head so my mom said we could go to an urgent care center. Once there, the doctor said my head was ok and I had a first degree burn on my neck. He also gave me a tetanus shot b/c the seat belt rubbed my skin pretty raw, it was bleeding in parts and my shot was definitely not current. Other than that I was fine, my parents are just supposed to wake me up tonight to make sure I don't have a concussion.

So now I'm home, vegging on my futon and watching Josie and the Pussycats. David is with me taking care of me and being the wonderful boy he is :)

I thank God so much that I made it out of that wreck with minimal injuries! He has kept my family safe through a few crazy wrecks and I have no doubt He will continue to take care of us!

Thanks to everyone who has been praying for me, I appreciate it so much! Continue to pray for my healing and for all the insureance fun we get to go through now and in finding me a new car.

movin and shakin

us dancing at Dani & Joel's wedding last month

The family reunion was great. David's step family is so great and welcoming. You would never know they weren't blood relatives, i love it. Some of my favorite moments were the mealtime prayers, getting soaked by the misters, playing with the cutest puppy in the world, and the delicious home fried catfish that his uncle's caught.

Family is so wonderful and I feel blessed to be included in so many. The Bordens, Browns, Waldons, Woodlawn, and my Wall. Ha, I'm caught up in the B's and W's.

I'm hoping to finish a little knit gift soon and get pics up. I also knit a purple headband for David's mom this weekend and I can't to see the pics of it. I knit it in a 12-ply merino wool blend and it was ridiculously soft!

I'm not sure how much crafting I will get done in the next few weeks, I have 18 days to pack up and paint my apartment AND my room here in Austin and move it all around. Hopefully it doesn't get too chaotic.

plans a brewin

My parents are celebrating their 29th wedding anniversary this weekend are are spending it out of town together. I'm spending the weekend at home in Austin with the house all to myself (when David isn't here of course). So how am I taking advantage of a house to myself at 3:45am?

I'm watching The Little Mermaid tv show on the disney channel. Yup. Wouldn't believe I'm almost 24, eh? Speaking of growing up, I only have two or three more classes till I graduate! Finally. What will I do with my degree? Hopefully sew, knit, and create all day long and sing all the time. Someone will pay me full time for that (and benefits of course!) right?

I have a few projects brewing. One small simple handsewing project to give as a gift. Some Easter knits to give those that are special in my life. I also want to knit a fun little shrug/croppec cardigan for Steph's wedding. My bridesmaid dress is sleeveless and has a V front and back. It looks great but I know myself and have no doubt I'll get a bit chilly with no sleeves in the outdoor evening air during the reception.

I searched all afternoon online for a good free pattern but I couldn't find exactly what I wanted. So, I found something close and I'll be hacking the pattern up and pretty much creating my own. If it works out I might type it up, we'll see.

I still need to write out my little heart pattern. hmmm.

And flowers. I want to make lots and lots more flowers!

Also if anyone would like to place an order for a clutch, flower hair pin, felt bouquet, or anything else I've posted about in here let me know. I'd love to work with you on an order :)

button button who's got the button?

I do!

More than one actually. We went to see MeMaw yesterday to celebrate her 75th birthday with bbq and some shopping in town. When she was here last time she had mentioned letting me go through her vast button collection and picking out all the ones I wanted. I reminded her and out came 6 tins full of buttons. Some were still on their original cards but most were loose. MeMaw, my mom and I spent at least an hour going through them all, picking out all kinds of fun, interesting and colorful buttons.

I can't wait to get home and organize them all by color and style. I'm a nerd about buttons, it's silly :)

Why does my MeMaw have over a thousand buttons? She used to be a professional seamstress. She made all my mom's, aunt's and uncle's clothing. She also sewed for people in town. My mom grew up making all her doll's clothes and began making her own clothes soon after. As I was growing up many of my dresses were made by MeMaw or my mom. My mom went on to make all my prom dresses.

I learned to sew from watching them and eventually trying my hand at it. I started making thing by hand and then moved on to using my mom's machine. I made my first purse about 4 years ago and haven't looked back since. I hope to someday teach my daughter about the love of sewing and the enjoyment that comes from holding something you made from scratch.

There are still many more buttons for me to go back and explore through. I think I mostly took all the brightly colored ones. MeMaw told me her children learned their colors by playing with all these buttons. I love it!
