I'm ready...

Anyone else ready to decorate for Christmas yet?! I'm ready to get going with twinkly lights and shiny red and green everywhere. The hubs makes me wait until Thanksgiving but after that...it's on!

To keep me at bay until then I do decorate a bit for Halloween, so that helps. And I will be decorating my Sunday school classroom with a smallish Christmas tree this weekend to promote the Operation Christmas Child toy drive that our church is doing. Boxes are due November 4 so I want there to be a reminder the week before.

This is all the crafting I've done in the past week...

knit feather
David and I went to Houston this past weekend to see my best friend Emily and her hubby.  While there we had to go to Southpaw Guitars (all left-handed guitars for my backwards hubs) and I knit a feather prototype while he played. I have a few changes I plan to make and then incorporate it into some cool stuff.

my Emily!
Saturday - paddle boating in Houston
some pretty new fabrics
Sunday - Pentatonix concert!  So good.
Monday - IKEA trip to get David a cool table.

Expect Chuy pictures soon, he's getting a major haircut as I type this. :)

knit gnome

tiny little knit gnome
A friend and co-worker of mine will be moving to South East Asia for the next two years to be a Journeyman.  I'm super excited for her but will miss her around here.  We had a staff dinner last week and some of us said nice things to her, gave cards and so on.  I got it in my head that day at work that I could knit her something small after work and before dinner.  I found this gnome pattern and knew it would be pretty simple and the perfect little travel companion for her while she tours the world.

There was a construction delay when trying to leave work.

Then I didn't have skin colored yarn so I had to go to hobby lobby.

Then there was traffic.

Then once home Chuy wanted to snuggle and lay on my knitting.

Then my dad called.

I managed to get this little guy knit in a little over an hour and was only a little late to dinner (though I got there right when our group was seated...so I like to think I was perfectly on time).

She loved him and I already have plans to knit some more.  I found a lady gnome variation and I foresee some cute little Clauses for Christmas this year!

Chuy isn't sure what to think of this little guy

Quicky

A quick update before our crazy fun week begins.

Today we have an angry birds party for one of our favorite 2 year olds, followed by a wedding of one David's co-workers. Somewhere in there we also have to pack and clean up our apartment for our trip to Florida tomorrow!

We're going to see my grandma and the rest of my dad's family in Tampa, then head to Disney World for the whole week. I'm ridiculously excited, it's David's first time :) He also gets to meet the goofy side of my family. Maybe it will shed some light on why I am the way I am a little for him, ha.

I'm taking my iPad so I hope to be able to post some pics from Florida, but we'll see if that actually happens or not.

Owl puffs

My favorite kind of animal is a tiny knit one!  I love making these little guys. I've done bunny nuggets, monster chunks, and now owl puffs. First of all, the names are fun enough, then you see how cute they are!

One of my old co-workers, and one who still works with David, has a birthday today. Ginger loves all things crafty as much as I do so I wanted to make her something small and sweet.  I found the pattern on ravelry and fell in love. I can't wait to make more. I appreciate a kindred spirit who loves to make things to give to people, and Ginger is definitely one of those...plus she loves Jesus too!

Here's to cute owls and the amazing women in my life!

day 26: my dear friends

some of our dearest friends

Today I am thankful for my dear friends.  It would take too long to write about each one individually so I'll give a general blanket thanks for all of them.

David and I have been blessed with some amazing people throughout our lives.  We were lucky enough to have all of them in our wedding earlier this year.  They are a fun bunch as you can see in the picture.  They are all so special to me in different ways.  Some are childhood friends of David, who I am thankful to for making sure he didn't blow himself up before I could meet him :)  Some are my high school choir girls who helped me survive high school and college.  Some are more recent friends who I love just as much.  One up there is a sister, and well, I already told you about her :)

Our friends are all silly and amazing all at the same times, which is probably why we keep them around...or maybe they keep us around?  I am so thankful that, for whatever reason, our bonds have stayed strong and we have them to go to whenever we need them or just want to hang out, and we can be there for them if they ever need it.

day 5: the ladies

the young young ladies

I just got home from our annual church ladies retreat.  We spent the night in Fredericksburg discussing empowered women from the Bible.  It was such a great time spent with women of all generations from my church.  I'm so thankful for all these ladies that I have surrounding me.  Each one is such a great inspiration and encouragement for me.  I know no matter what stage of life I'm in I will always have them there to help me and give advice.

Sophie, Angie and I all showed up at the retreat in jeans, purple tops, black pea coats, and converse.  Love these girls!

pair o' pears

pair of pears
I can finally show you the awesome little pears I made about 3 months ago!  My sweet Aussie friend Sophie had a birthday back in June and I decided she needed some knit pears in her life.  I made them pretty quickly, then they just sat...and sat.......were moved but still sat...and sat some more.  THEN I finally mailed them out about 2 weeks ago.  Mailing gifts is just not my forte.

Anyways, they finally made it to her so I can show you.  They fit so perfectly in my hand, I just wanted to hold them all day.  I can't remember where I found the pattern for the life of me.  I bet I have it at home on my laptop.

Now that you've read this, go read Sophie's blog and enjoy her cheery thoughts :)

yesterday, today, tomorrow

Yesterday I knit 2 adorable pumpkins while relaxing at home.  I intend to get some pictoral proof this afternoon.

Today, I'm sending some special knits on a voyage to another continent.  Those pics will be posted once they meet their new mom :)  They were made to be mailed over 2 months ago and that just never happened.  I must confess I wasn't particularly motivated to get them out of our apartment considering how cute they are!  I guess I'll have to make my own now.

In some more ric-racky news, I bought some interesting ric rac this weekend.  Think vinyl, sparkle, and glitz!  All these things are too obnoxious for an entire piece of clothing, but for a flower, perfect!

This weekend I hope to knit a bat, make a wreath for our door, sew a new flower for my hair and...oh yeah, clean our dining room table.  It might look like a small yarn/felt/crafting mountain.  The hubs has this crazy idea that dining tables are meant for dining...pfffft!

well...it finally happened!

I will let these wonderful pics that Whitney took speak for themselves :)

April 7, 2009

ah well..

I never finished my little cardigan. I'm giving my fingers a rest from those tiny needles. Regardless of my lack of cardigan, the wedding was fabulous!! Stephanie was beautiful and it was a great time of family, friends, and community getting together to show our love for The new Guilbeauxs! I got to see a bunch of kids from our old church that are all grown up now. It made me feel old, ha.

David and I got to sing for them during the ceremony, which I loved! I used to sing Steph to sleep in our Baylor days when I'd practice for voice lessons or choir. She managed to stay awake this time :)

To replace my cardigan knitting I've taken to knitting little bunnies for Easter! They're adorable little things. I've gotten 3 all knit up, just need to stuff and sew them up. Fun way to stash bust or feel good about knitting something in less than hour.

I'll hopefully have a pic later tonight :)
